Opinion with Abdulsalam Kamaldeen Muhamm

CRIMINALS LABOUR ROOM I became inquisitive to per blink of an eye disrespect of human life on Nigerians. So that took me to talk session with a psychiatry expert of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Prof. Moses David Audu – who  told me “no amount of shootings and military hardware can end criminals, infact no amount of aggressiveness can win the war”  It became obvious how mesmerized and overwhelmed I became, so he had me reminisced a little to affirm his claim. Truly, there are prevailing evidences through our home windows (for security consciousness) that criminality perpetrators have no age limit – even innocence of children (teenagers) is lost to crime. Very saddening! And the aftermath always sung, unknown gunmen, unidentified terrorist, yet more inhumane terror on our lives. Wait, is Prof. a God?  In my neighborhood – Yanshanu on Plateau, every day is double curiousity for me, one in the morning (down to be precise) at sight of one after the other retiring from the river

FG commences implementation of new national teachers’ policy

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the commencement of the implementation of the new National teaching policy for Teachers. This was disclosed by the Minister of Education at a press conference to herald the commemoration of the 2022 World teachers day in Abuja. The Minister called on State governments to also ensure the implementation of the policy in their various States. The federal government at the 2020 edition of the World Teachers Day celebration announced a new national teaching policy for Nigerian teachers. The policy includes new teachers' salary structure and a new retirement age of 65 years. After several months of waiting anxiously, the federal government says it has now commenced the implementation but state governments are yet to do the same. The inability of States to commence theirs will also widen the existing gap between those who teach in Schools owned by States and the Federal government. October 5th is a day set aside to celebrate teachers globa

Qatar rejected PMB planned visit.

By ★AHMAD GHAMZAKI★ The government of Qatar under the leadership of Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned state visit to the country in September 2022, asking him to reapply in 2023. According to a note dated August 19, 2022, from the embassy of Qatar in Abuja to the ministry of foreign affairs, the dates of the proposed visitation “are not suitable”. The note established that Nigeria had communicated in writing that Buhari had “accepted to visit Qatar on 11-12 September 2022 on the invitation of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar”. It, however, instructed the federal government to propose a new date for the visit, preferably “during the first quarter of the year 2023”. “The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Regions Department) and with reference to the latter’s note M 403/2022 dated 12/08/2022 informing that H.E Muhamma

THE QUACK'S AUXILIARY NURSES ARE BECOMING PREVAILED.

Training of quacks nurses by some unaccredited health school in Nigeria especially in Jos plateau is becoming the vogue, training of quacks nurses by health care workers across all levels in Nigeria is gradually becoming the new normal and major malpractice worsening the country's health care system. The proliferation of quackery in the nursing profession can be linked to many sources. This includes doctors and nurses' greed and selfishness in the need to make mega-profits from practice in private hospitals and clinics; lack of political will and commitment towards the health sector; poor regulation and routine supervision by professional associations; ignorance and misinformation. Effects of training quacks include increase maternal and childhood mortality, increase unemployment rate of registered nurses and midwifery, discredit medical and nursing education, poor treatment outcome in many hospitals and weakened healthcare system. Recommended solutions are: improving state h

OVER RECKONING OF STRIKE SUSPENSION LEADS SOME STUDENTS TO BE STRANDED

M.H.Anas (Reader)      Since February 14, 2022, the Nigerian  Federal universities and some State-owned  universities across the country were closed and shutdowned  of operations deliberately due to an industrial action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to press its demands on government which includes: payments of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), revitalization fund, replacement of Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS), with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution ( UTAS), among others.      Inauspiciously, the strike which was  commenced as a warning strike, has been metamorphosed to an indefinite, which seems to be unending at the moment. Despite the fact that, a considerable number of meetings and consultations between FG and ASUU, negotiations were never on progress.     Furthermore, the hope and predictions of Nigerian students and other stakeholders  for the strike's suspension is at zero percent at this moment

ASUU Strike: Education Minister Meets VCs, Others

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, is meeting with pro-chancellors, chairmen of councils, and vice chancellors of universities, among others. While the details of the meeting ongoing in Abuja remain sketchy at the time of this report, it is part of the efforts of the Federal government to resolve the industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Shortly before the discussions went into a closed-door session, Mr Adamu gave an address to declare the meeting open. In his remarks, he said one major issue over which the government and ASUU, as well as other unions, could not reach an amicable agreement was the issue of the law on “no work, no pay”. He stated that the decision by the ASUU leadership that the union would no longer negotiate with the government, as reported, must be resisted. According to Adamu, the government and ASUU have no option but to continue to talk until universities reopen their doors to Nigerian students whom he said were pr

Our Party Will Focus On Issues – Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress has informed the main opposition party, PDP that he and the party will be more focused on issues rather than trading insults. This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga. Onanuga added that the PDP descended into the pit of hatred because Tinubu reminded the party of its 16 years which left a mess for the APC government. Tinubu, during the weekend, had called on the APC members not to hurl abuses at the PDP because the rival party which is saddled with a leadership crisis has no place in Nigeria’s future. The PDP, in its response, described the APC as a “dead” party while it was strong, united and focused on its mission to rescue, rebuild and redirect the nation from the APC misrule.

Police Arrest 2 For Alleged Involvement in Human Trafficking

Sokoto state Police command has arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in human trafficking and other related offenses. The spokesman of the command DSP Sanusi Abubakar who confirmed the arrest to TVC NEWS says the suspects will be paraded by the state Police command after the conclusion of the investigation. Sources in Illela where the arrest took place told TVCNEWS that one of the suspects was arrested at the border town with the victim, which he attempted to traffic to Libya through the Niger Republic. He says the other accomplice of the suspect was arrested in Sokoto town. A source who is familiar with the case told TVC News that the other accomplice was arrested at a popular hotel in Sokoto Metro Police. Sokoto state has been a route and destination of trafficking in persons as the perpetrators of the crime take advantage of the porous nature of the land borders in the state. Over twenty-two persons were rescued by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibitio

NO PROBLEM BETWEEN CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS – KUKAH

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has declared that there is no problem between the two major religious groups of the country, the Christians and the Muslims. Bishop Kukah, who was speaking on TVC News Breakfast show on Monday morning, said that the problem of the country was with leaders irresponsible leaders who used religion as a tool of oppression rather than for liberation. He said, “There is no problem between Christians and Muslims. There is a problem between irresponsible leaders who don’t want to govern properly; irresponsible Christian religious leaders who have now seen religion as a tool of oppression instead of a tool for liberation. “This has been the thrust of my argument, because these are two areas of study. With all sense of modesty I have spent a good part of my life studying theology and studying religion and society,” he noted. Punch reports that the clergyman who was responding to questions on the roles of religion and ethnicity in the politics o

Another APC Senator Kicks Against Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Proposes Amendment Of Electoral Act

The Senator representing Kogi-West, and a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi, on Sunday kicked against the Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying a repeat of such development is capable of bringing down the fabrics of the nation. Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, Adeyemi, however, said that he supports the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, not because they are members of APC, but because of his knowledge about the duo, their track records and antecedents. Adeyemi, who backed the concern raised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the Muslim-Muslim ticket, said that the association made some cogent observations, adding, “there have been oversights in key appointments in the past, which tend to keep Christians at a disadvantage and this has caused apprehension amongst us.” Urging the government to confront issues in such a manner that will not obstruct the fabric o

The figure may not be unconnected with the 10-year insurgency war. The decline in primary school enrollment inherited by Gov Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been of concern to the stakeholders in the educational sector. The government has already rolled out different policies to address the trend. One of such policies involves the state primary education boa

OUR STUDENTS' UNIONS SHOULD CHANGE THEIR THOUGHTS AND SAVE THE SYSTEM FROM TOTAL COLLAPSING

By M.H.Anas (Reader) The level of silence by the students' unions is unreservedly condemnable and eqouvocally unstrategic in nature. Where do you think students can confidently go and express their grievances categorically without fear and contradiction? I bet you, it's through students' unions only. Fortunately, the whole idea behind the creation of various students' associations and unions is to categorically protect students' interests, fight for their welfares and advocate for their rights and liberty at all levels. But the high level of political conspiracy has tremendously change the entire narrative to another dimension.  When you are elected or nominated to represent students at all level of leadership, our expectations of you is the manifestation of your dedication, sacrifice and commitment towards fulfilling the saddled   responsibility mandated on you. But their level of fear and negligence has played a vital roles in bastardizing the entire system  beyo

Army inaugurates 120,000 litre water scheme in Lassa, Borno

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant, General Farouk Yahaya has set up a 120,000 litre rural water scheme at Lassa community in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno. The project is part of efforts to foster healthy civil-military relations in the fight against insurgency. Lassa was one of the hardest hit communities in Southern Borno when Boko Haram insurgents controlled some local government areas. Its proximity to Samibisa forest, the operational headquarters of the outlaw sect, put the people of the area in constant danger until they were liberated by the Nigerian military. Another challenge faced by over 20,000 people who reside in the community is the lack of potable water. Every day, they must walk a mile or two in search of water. Hence, the official opening of the 120,000-litre borehole by the military authorities. The project, which cost more than 56 million naira, was made possible by Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantr
