Army inaugurates 120,000 litre water scheme in Lassa, Borno

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant, General Farouk Yahaya has set up a 120,000 litre rural water scheme at Lassa community in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno.

The project is part of efforts to foster healthy civil-military relations in the fight against insurgency.

Lassa was one of the hardest hit communities in Southern Borno when Boko Haram insurgents controlled some local government areas. Its proximity to Samibisa forest, the operational headquarters of the outlaw sect, put the people of the area in constant danger until they were liberated by the Nigerian military.

Another challenge faced by over 20,000 people who reside in the community is the lack of potable water. Every day, they must walk a mile or two in search of water. Hence, the official opening of the 120,000-litre borehole by the military authorities.

The project, which cost more than 56 million naira, was made possible by Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry who is also an indigene of the community.

The Chief of Army staff urged the community to keep collaborating with the armed forces in order to rid the state of terrorism.

This is a dream come true for the people of Lassa Community who also want the state government to take charge and hire water engineering students to manage the water distribution system.
