Article: ANIMAL ABUSE: STORY FROM YANSHANU LIVESTOCK MARKET JOS

This year, Sentient Media reveals that every 60 seconds, one animal suffers abuse. One afternoon, I counted 483 drops of blood on the ground and lost counting to empathy of, what blood is it? But what really transpired?  A wounded cow (with blood flow close to the eye) was being paraded to the slaughtering ground which is about a mile and half (sometimes farther) from the livestock’s market of Yanshanu in Jos. Added to the feeble state of this animal was respiratory mucosa effect, yet a reckless herder (sometimes guy/boy) hit the cow with a goad on the eye wound because at some point, the cow didn’t move/moved slowly (front legs were tied together)–immediately the cow fell to the ground due to force it’s hit. This was repeated until the destination reached. Such oppression is irrefutably done daily.   This JOS senario conforms argument of Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation that “it would first be necessary to transform people’s attitude towards animal.” Over 40year...

ASUU struggle....

Hmm That's the reality now the fight is between parent and FG. During ASUU strike some people directly blamed ASUU. Parents and guardians are distraught with discombobulation. They can’t plan and have zero alternatives to public universities since foreign university education isn’t an option for them, and private universities in the country are out of their reach, so now even the public universities are out of their reached, many Nigerians can't afford to pay the school fees release by many public universities, hmm that's the real Dilemma for now. So, many homes are filled with angry, frustrated students forced to live with parents and guardians who are overwrought with angst, that was before, the situation may be bigger for now, because of many parents with no option to live their children at home due to the increased of fees in our so called public universities. uncertainties, and crippling bewilderment. You can imagine the turmoil this combustible mix is activating in ...

2023: Why The PRP Is The Safer Alternative On The Plateau

By Sadiq Sabo Before the local government councils election on the Plateau late last year, there was a court order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in participating in the election owing to the fact that, there were two factions in the party and other internal skirmishes within the party. Eventually, the PDP couldn't partake in the exercise and that resulted in sweeping all the seats in the state from the ward to the local government levels by the APC. As if that wasn't enough, the PDP still went into another round of election in February this year when the seat for Bassa/Jos North federal constituency became vacant as a result of the demise of the hitherto occupant Alhaji Haruna Maitala Jingir. The PDP won fraudulently but later relinquished the seat after the tribunal sacked it and affirmed by the appeal court. According to legal practitioners as well as going by the verdict of the court of appeal, the PDP does not have the structure to sponsor, nominate and c...

Opinion| 2023: Why Kwande And The PRP Stand A Better Chance In Plateau North

By Sadiq Sabo As the 2023 general elections draws nearer, permutations, strategies and other political alliances, adjustments and realignments are heightened all in the hopes of wooing the electorates and of course, gaining a good ground ahead of the polls come next year. The nation's electoral umpire, the independent national electoral commission (INEC), had last month, published the names of national assembly candidates under various platforms (political parties) and that has served as a harbinger and heralded the start of the electioneering campaigns especially as the September 28th date came and gone, ushering in the election season. The publication of names is the last in the political parties' process of fielding candidates, as that would cement the candidates' and their parties' resolve and aspirations and of course, spur them to begin the campaigns in earnest. On the Plateau here, the case is no different. The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), which is the oldes...
