2023: Why The PRP Is The Safer Alternative On The Plateau

By Sadiq Sabo

Before the local government councils election on the Plateau late last year, there was a court order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in participating in the election owing to the fact that, there were two factions in the party and other internal skirmishes within the party. Eventually, the PDP couldn't partake in the exercise and that resulted in sweeping all the seats in the state from the ward to the local government levels by the APC.

As if that wasn't enough, the PDP still went into another round of election in February this year when the seat for Bassa/Jos North federal constituency became vacant as a result of the demise of the hitherto occupant Alhaji Haruna Maitala Jingir. The PDP won fraudulently but later relinquished the seat after the tribunal sacked it and affirmed by the appeal court.

According to legal practitioners as well as going by the verdict of the court of appeal, the PDP does not have the structure to sponsor, nominate and contest for any elective position as far as its present disposition remains. You can't build something on nothing and expect it to stand, according to lawyers.

A similar fate is looming and staring the ruling APC. After the sham of a primary election they conduct, other candidates that felt aggrieved went to court led by Sarpiya challenging the primaries that produced Dr Yilwatda Nantawe. The case is still being determined and things might likely go South. The judiciary has been strengthened especially as the new electoral act and electoral reform make things unambiguously clear. Zamfara is a readily available example and I'm not expecting a progressive and exposed people like Plateau people should and can such a costly mistake when a safer alternative exists with all the paraphernalia of all that is good and all that's great.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is the only serious political party without litigation from the unit up to the state level. It is not also an underdog political party because it's the oldest political party in Nigeria so far with its pro masses programs and ideology. It's a political party that respects the rule of law, court orders and the belief of the true redemption of the masses. Its determination to defend the rights of the people is evident in the recent judgement by both the tribunal and the appeal court for the seat of Bassa/Jos North using the instrumentality of the courts and law as against violence and chaos. Aside being a formidable political party, its candidate can be adjudged to be the best among equals in virtually all ramifications. The PRP has presented Plateau people with a better alternative that's safe, reliable and absolutely people-oriented. Plateau people have always been wise and calculative and there is no wiser and more calculative decision aside voting in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) next year in all elective position for a truly reclaimed and progressive Plateau.

By Abdullahi Abdulhafiz Aliyu In today’s fast-changing digital landscape, access to technology is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity. Yet, for millions of Nigerians, especially people with special needs, the digital world remains out of reach due to systemic barriers and a lack of inclusive learning opportunities. My work as a journalist and digital advocate has focused on breaking these barriers, ensuring that technology serves as a tool for empowerment rather than exclusion. Through my engagement with individuals with disabilities and as the host of Duniyar Fasaha (Fasaha World) on Unity FM, I have worked to bridge the digital divide by providing foundational digital education to marginalized groups. By introducing people with special needs to basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet navigation, I have witnessed firsthand how technology can unlock new opportunities and transform lives.
