Court sentences R Kelly to 30 Years in Prison for Sex Offences.

R&B star R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for using his superstardom to subject young fans — some just children — to systematic sexual abuse. The singer and songwriter, 55, was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking last year at a trial that gave voice to accusers who had once wondered if their stories were being ignored because they were Black women. US District Judge Ann Donnelly imposed the sentence on Wednesday after hearing from several survivors who attested to how Kelly’s exploitation reverberated across their lives. “You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel,” said one unnamed survivor, directly addressing Kelly, who kept his hands folded and his eyes downcast. “Do you remember that?” Kelly did not address the court. The sentence caps a slow-motion fall for Kelly, who was adored by legions of fans and sold millions of albums even after allegations about his abuse of young girls beg

By Y. Z. Yaú, CITAD The long standing debate around the control of the social media in Nigeria, last week took a new turn with the release by NITDA of the draft Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms/ Internet Intermediaries. Predictably, the Code has launched a new controversy around the motives of government for coming up with the code at this time of our history. One ground of suspicion about the intention of the code is that it is coming at about the time we are entering electioneering campaign period. Mischief says that this government that benefited greatly from the use of social media in the run up to the 2015 general elections when it was in opposition does not want to be hurt the same way it had used the same social media to hurt the campaign aspirations of the former ruling party.  But there have also been many initiatives in the last seven or so years by this government to control the use of the social media. Voter Apathy looms in North,Group warns, 2023 Poll

The Coalition for Northern Groups (CNG) has warned that unless urgent measures are taken, there is a likelihood of voter apathy in the northern part of the country in the 2023 general elections. Addressing journalists in Kano on Monday, the spokesman for the coalition, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said its observations indicated that there is lower participation in the ongoing update of voter registration in the North compared to other parts of the country. This, the coalition said is not unconnected to the huge disappointment of northerners in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The coalition also said the outcome of party primaries, especially in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had further pushed a huge percentage of northerners to a position of caring little about who emerged winner in the 2023 election with the “monetisation” of the process.  The coalition, however, charged northerners not to be discourage

There is no any Politician that's national Champion

By Kabiru Garba. There is no any Politician that's national Champion on his own, Buhari was regional Champion before joining other forces to score some votes from SW and win the 2015 elections, and up to now there's no one in the whole country that enjoys supports akin to his. Even Atiku that's seen as National Champion today (by his supporters) is just an Adamawa Champion, he was only able to garner just not more than 52% in the last Election in his Constituency, Adamawa. What really works in Nigerian politics is strong Party, no matter who you are if you belong to a strong party with incumbent leaders you can get huge Support and votes in an election.  Nigerian Presidential Candidates Even late 'Yardua was not known nationally when he defeated Buhari in 2007, but he emerged victorious due to the strength, vigour and structure of his Party. So If anyone thinks he is widely accepted by all in the country, let him try new party with no incumbent Governors, Reps and Sena
