  M.H ANAS (@Reader) One thing which has been of the greatest concern today is, when, where and how will a common citizen just like you and I can have access to qualitative education in Nigeria?  Be it from the universities  polytechnics or any other institutions of learning.  Basically, I refrained myself from commenting and intervening on any controversial educational tension as much as possible. But by considering the kind of unsuccessful and mischievous vein that conveys the plasma for the negotiations between FGN and ASUU, is entirely unstrategic and rigorous to comprehend both the parties.  From 1999 till-date, ASUU has been consistently declaring warning and indefinite strikes in this country, in order to fight for the  betterment of tertiary educational sector in Nigeria.   Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, Ohiagu Sunday, who leads a drug syndicate at the international wing of the airport. He was nabbed on Tuesday 23rd August following the arrest of an intending passenger on Air peace flight to Dubai, UAE, Obinna Jacob Osita who was arrested with three bags, two of which contained eight blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 4.25kg concealed in cassava product, garri and crayfish. One other member of the airport syndicate who works with Ohiagu has also been arrested while operatives are after another suspect. Investigations revealed that a Dubai-based drug dealer recruited Obinna, a 42-year-old native of Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State to traffic the drugs and equally contracted Ohiagu, a 34-year-old airport cleaner from Orlu West Local Government Area of Imo State to create access for the unhindered passage of the trafficker. ...

 The dethroned Emir of Zurmi in Zamfara state, Abubakar Atiku has died during a brief illness in a hospital in Egypt. He died on Friday. He was flown out of the country a few days after family members noticed his health condition was deteriorating and needed urgent medical attention. Sources told TVC News that his remains will arrive soon for burial in his hometown, Zurmi where he was Emir until he was deposed for allegedly conniving with bandits. Zurmi Emirate has continued to bear the brunt of armed bandits' attack which has forced many locals to abandon their ancestral homes and farmlands for safer communities.

 A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari to the United States (US). Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment held that the extradition application was an abuse of the court process, on the grounds that Mr. Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before a Nigerian court. The US authorities had applied to the Nigerian government for Mr. Kyari’s extradition in relation to his alleged link with suspected international fraudster, Ramon Abbas (hushpuppi).  Follow us for more news stories

  After a series of heated discussions, the Academic Staff Union of Universities has decided to extend its ongoing strike, The PUNCH reliably learnt. The decision was taken after the National Executive Council meeting at the union’s headquarters at the University of Abuja on Monday morning. ASUU had declared the commencement of a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the University of Lagos. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, in an interview with The PUNCH, explained that the government had taken all possible steps to end the strike. He said, “As regards the next steps, the government has already inaugurated a committee to harmonise the IPPIS, UTAS, and UP3.   The National Broadcasting Commission on Friday, August 19TH, 2022, issued a shutdown notice to licensees that are indebted to the Commission. Following the ultimatum, the Commission received positive responses from the debtor Licensees, including big players in the broadcast industry. Sequel to a follow-up meeting held with Executives of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), and other critical Stakeholders in the industry, the Commission has decided to temporarily suspend the shutdown of the indebted Broadcast stations all over the Country. The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has urged Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units, ACTUs, across MDAs to consistently, demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption in the Civil Service. According to her, the fight against corruption remains a top priority of the government of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
