Opinion: WOMEN IN POLITICS: WHO IS AFRAID?

  By Jauhar S. Salihu I will like to say this categorically with emphasis and vigor that I don't see any rational behind your worries when a societal operational system allows talented and hardworking women in your society to fully participate in the process of social, political, moral and economic rejuvenation of that society. The chauvinists who insist that their daughters would not go to school or if they're allowed but will not be given the chance to excell in their respective fields of endeavors, based on the belief that campus and work place would corrupt them, still want female doctors to attend to their wives, daughters, sisters, aunts and nieces, at the hospital. First and foremost, let us take a look at Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed who was (born 11 August 1971) also known as Aishatu Binani, she is a Nigerian politician who is currently serving as a senator representing Adamawa Central since 2019. She recently become an epitome of all what a misogynistic society stands t

Why FG awarding multi-billion naira contracts 18 days to go

The Federal Government yesterday explained why the Federal Executive Council was approving multibillion naira contracts 18 days to the end of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo and his water resources counterpart, Sulaiman Adamu, explained this after the cabinet meeting. Sambo, while reacting to a question that sought to know the reason for the award of contracts which the outgoing ministers would not execute due to expiration of tenure on May 29, said the administration would continue to perform its duties up to May 28. He said: “Ladies and gentlemen, without any intentions of mischief, this government was elected to function from 2019 to precisely 29th of May 2023. Should we now stop functioning one month before the next appointment because we are coming to the end of the tenure? “This government must work. We expect the next government to also work until the very last day of their tenure.” Adamu said contracted processes took

Police rescue PLASU student

  PLASU    The police in Plateau State on Wednesday foiled an attempt to kidnap female students of the Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos. The spokesman of the institution, John Agams, confirmed the incident, adding that one student was injured during the rescue operation. In a statement by the spokesperson of the state command, DSP Alabo Alfred, said the success to foil the kidnapping was made possible as a result of a distress call put across by “the vice chancellor of the university and other good citizens who made several calls to our control rooms, the PPRO and other senior officers to alert us on the happenings around that area which aided our quick response to the scene.” He explained that, “That on 09th May, 2023, at about 1915 hours, hoodlums attempted to kidnap some female off - campus students who went to fetch firewood in a nearby bush when they ran out of cooking gas. “Upon receipt of this information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bokkos, aided by other s

EFCC arrests Buhari’s ex minister

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, over alleged N22bn fraud. Mamman, who was arrested in the early hours of yesterday, was quizzed by the crack detectives of the EFCC at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. He served as power minister  from August 2019 to September 2021. Mamman and his agriculture and rural development counterpart, Sabo Nanono, were relieved of their cabinet positions on September 1, 2021 in what President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly said was to reinvigorate his cabinet and consolidate legacy achievements. Mamman’s arrest was said to be in connection with the EFCC’s on-going investigation into alleged corruption in the execution of some power projects. He was alleged to have conspired with staff of the ministry in charge of the accounts of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects to divert N22 billion. Properties in Nigeria and abroad were said to have been linked to the suspects;

The angry residents were at the INEC headquarters in Jos to express their dissatisfaction. Alaa Salah And Aisha Yesufu: Homemakers Or Havoc Wreckers

The crisis in Sudan is most heartbreaking because it involves two sides that never have to fight each other. Just like the fight between the Houthis and government forces after the ouster of Abdallah bn Saleh during the Arab uprising in Yemen. The same thing in Libya, and Syria. Unlike the ones in Yemen, Syria and Libya, the one in Sudan could easily be averted had Alaa Salah didn't start that infamous revolution in Khartoum, some two years ago. Sudan has been marked by the West since the days of Al-Bashir but he could only be ousted, not prosecuted by the ICC to the disappointment and chagrin of the West. Since his ouster, the country didn't experience any form of stability. The power tussle between Generals Heremdti and Dogalo is nothing but a battle for ego and economic control yet the very people that charged and cheered on Alaa Salah two years ago are the ones feeling the final brunt just as it's said, when two elephants fight, it's the ground/grass that suffers.
