Jos, the capital city of Plateau
State has been deeply divided since the unfortunate incident of September 7th,
2001 along religious lines. Since that ugly day, Muslims and Christians' alike
have been living on either sides of the town. Where Christian's move to where
they are relatively the majority, and Muslims likewise; living the city deeply
divided on two fronts.
The capital of Plateau, Jos, has
three local governments vis-a-vis Jos North, Jos South and Jos East, even
though the latter is relatively a small outskirt town that's barely developed
to be considered a city hence Jos North and South are seen as the most
developed and centre of the town.
Surprisingly, Jos South seems to be
more developed and sane. Its citizens more civil and law abiding even though
Jos North boast of having the most presence of both state and federal
governments establishments. What is a crime in Jos South is merely an
infringement in Jos North with barely no repercussions whatsoever from the part
of the offender. For instance, traffic laws are not followed, let alone
enforced in Jos North. The prevalence of crimes is stinking to the high heavens
yet the authorities look the other side because it's very difficult to enforce
law and order here. Any attempt to do that, would result in something different
and could be given a different translation.
The inhabitants of Jos North local
government take pride in being lawless and disobedient to constituted authority
to the point that the authorities have left us to our fate and wisdom. We are
now a banana republic where everything goes and we are so proud of it. Any
attempt to sensitize people on the danger of that erratic behaviour is met with
stiff resistance.
In no distant time, intervention
agencies would stop coming to our aid whenever calamity strikes because our
people always take pride in attacking them. I'm now beginning to understand why
our neighbours are always jittery traversing through our communities because of
the fear of the unknown. We don't seem to have a firm grip on our wards.
Both parents and religious leaders seem not in control of the Ummah. We seem
like a horde of horses that have bolted before the cart.
Jos Ummah, which way?

This the sad reality in Jos North. Our people are not abiding the laws, and the Government left us to do whatever we fell like doing. I am appealing to our people let join hands in bringing sanity to our community, but truth of the matter we are lawless society.
ReplyDeleteSad reality.,Jos north is indeed a banana republic at such the state need to take a drastic action…
